I’m Dan Stamm, a data-driven communications expert with more than 20 years of major-market media experience launching a newsletter about the one thing that constantly gets in our way: distraction.
In the time between introducing myself and actually writing that sentence, I purchased a website domain, peered down at my phone to check my fantasy football roster, took a sip of seltzer and clicked on the wrong opened tab on my web browser more than once. (What the heck, I even took out the recycling instead of continuing the next sentence right away!)
Depending on how well the rest of this reads, maybe a little distraction in this case is a good thing.
It’s clear: with countless distractions vying for every second of every day, how do we focus on the things that really matter—the so-called “green light” initiatives that demand our undivided attention?
That search for the answer is the driving force behind “No Distractions: a twice a week 5-minute focus to excel amid life’s challenges.”
The Mission of 'No Distractions'
I plan on talking about my own distractions and diving into how high achievers manage to block out the noise (or maybe they don't!) to accomplish tasks ranging from the unbelievable and impressive to the consistent and mundane.
I hope to find out what is—and possibly more importantly, isn’t—going through a tightrope walker’s head while balancing without a net. What does a race car driver think about while making split-second decisions that impact their career and safety? What about the magician, who is focused on distracting the audience, the surgeon using precision instruments to save lives and the ship’s captain tasked with the safe passage of everyone on board?
Along the way, I'll dive into the latest research (and some tried and true anecdotes) on distractions and why we are all so prone to losing focus on what truly matters.
What to Expect
Don’t expect a self-help guide or “six simple steps” to productivity.
This is about inspiring you, challenging you and helping you focus on becoming a more driven version of yourself. (And the "you" I'm talking to isn't just the audience—it's myself, too.) My hope is that my own journey will inspire you to find your own north star, whatever season of life you're in right now.
Ready to find your focus?
Please be sure to sign up for my twice weekly newsletter as new posts drop at danstamm.com. I plan to keep the focus on distractions coming.
(Now, back to checking my fantasy football rosters on my phone.)
